Bornga Korean BBQ in Singapore

Common and popular in Singapore now is Korean BBQ, Bingsu (Korean shaved ice), and recently Korean fried chicken. I particularly like the spiciness of Korean food, however, one must down lots of rice water in order to cool off the body. Korean BBQ as brought on a more civilized method of cooking grilled meats. One no longer has to rough it out over hot coals of fire and over dirty BBQ pits in the great outdoors, but rather grill meats on hot plates with ventilation pipes to suck out the smoke. Bornga is probably one of the Korean BBQ places I have dined at most frequently, and what makes this place stand out from the crowd is the fresh salad platter that they provide with the grilled meats. The salad comes fresh and crunchy, motivating you to have lots of lettuce and carrot sticks to go with the grilled BBQ meats.

The fun part about going to Bornga Korean BBQ is that the staff is the one cooking the meats for you. Expertly, they grill the meats to your preferred perfection in front of you, allowing you to continue chatter with your friends. This kind of service is rarely found in Singapore, apart from fine dining restaurants. Meats tend to be a little on the pricey side, and can set you back by $30 a plate. This is why at times I compare this to a Western restaurant where you get a larger piece of meat for the same price. However, I suppose the marination of the Korean BBQ meats make it a nice diversion.

Apart from the couple of times I went to the Bornga outlet at the Star Vista, my recent Korean BBQ treat brought me to Suntec, where an executive set lunch gave us a plate BBQ pork and a hot piping bowl of Kimchi soup. Topped with fresh salad and a set of side dishes synonymous of Korean dining, this made lunch time dining such an enjoyable one.
