Ottoman Kebab and Grill Bedok Mall

There are times when you stumble upon good and cheap finds and all you want to do is to tell all your friends about it, well Ottoman Kebab and Grill at Bedok Mall is one of them. Because of the proximity to a friend's work place, after combing through the dining options at Bedok Mall we decided to settle for Ottoman - it being Turkish food that was something different from the usual.

I was quite surprised at the design of the restaurant, with different bright color accents and subdue cozy corners, making it a fun and appealing place to hang out for a Friday night meal. When I saw the menu, I was also quite happy to see that the food was reasonably priced. We had the Ottoman Shish Platter, which is a combination of  grilled seafood and meat, delicious and a must have. Suitable for sharing between 2-3 persons, it definitely fills the tummy if you order additional sides of flat bread and hummus, which we thoroughly enjoyed. What would have made it perfect would be a wider dessert selection for us to end the day sweet. Ottoman is also halal certified, so this is definitely a place I will come with my Muslim friends.

Sofra Turkish Cafe and Restaurant

It was a post Israel trip get together and at that time we were only aware of Sofra Turkish Cafe and Restaurant at Shaw Tower that offered food closest to what we ate in Israel, aka Mediterranean food.

With a group of around 10, we managed to order most of what was on the menu. The meats tasted mostly the same, leaning towards a heavier peppery flavor than I am used to. Most of the dishes came with their breads and salad so you don't have to order extra sides. I was so happy to see hummus on the menu as it is my favorite dip when I was last in Israel.

Sofra Turkish Cafe and Restauant is a lovely place for catching up in large groups. The food is different to what we are used to in Singapore, so indeed it is a new dining experience. Ambience is a little dark and old, but still acceptable, since you are there for the food and company. Request for a seat near the window for a better feel of the place.

I have learnt, you can't go to one restaurant expecting a taste of a different country. Just enjoy each food for what it is.
