Osaka Ohsho

If you enjoy Japanese food as much as I do, trying the gyoza dumplings at Osaka Ohsho in Plaza Singapura is a must. Probably not my favorite of all goyza dumplings, it is still good enough to satisfy a crave, plus the decent prices makes it worth repeated trips down. Goyza, the main feature of this restaurant, is cooked lightly crispy on the outside and maintains its juiciness on the inside.

Lunch time is usually the best time to eat here due to its valued lunch sets. I had the Omu Rice with Gyoza set, a delicious and fluffy wrap of egg with fried rice filling. My lunch kaki had the Fried Rice with Gyoza set, and I must say the fried rice is superb - moist, fragrant, evoking the homey feeling when eating something like that.

Tim Ho Wan

When Tim Ho Wan first opened in Singapore, endless queues formed, making it a challenge to sample what began to define decent Tim Sum at reasonable prices. Since then, Tim Ho Wan has opened several outlets across Singapore, hence one does not need to queue those crazy long queues any longer.

We happen to pass by the outlet at Plaza Singapura during lunch time, and not seeing a queue, we jumped in and decided to have a go. Since we were on an healthier eating plan, we chose all the healthy steamed items, apart from the must have Baked BBQ bun - a crusty covering with oozing BBQ sweetness that having a couple is a must. I also had for the first time steamed Spinach Dumpling with Shrimp, which became my new favorite Tim Sum item - having greens as a dumpling is certainly a healthier alternative. And of course, a must would be the Vermicelli Roll, with stuffing of your choice. Finishing off the meal was a light Osmanthus jelly. Deliciously light and a meal that I must say was totally delightful as it was both healthy and hearty.

Bangkok Jam

With weekend crowds gathering in most malls in Singapore, it is always a question of where to go for a meal that is decent enough, where you can hang out and have a decent conversation without shouting over the table, and where you can sit around for a while and not be stared down to leave the table after you have finished your meal. This time, my friends and I settled for Bangkok Jam at Plaza Singapura. We wanted somewhere that was centrally located for us, and that we could hide out in the aircon to beat the heat outdoors, yet enjoying a relatively private conversation.

Located in the new wing of Plaza Singapura on the 3rd floor, and tucked away near the escalators, Bangkok Jam is decorated in a street style way that reminds you of eating along the streets of Bangkok. Though the restaurant is not usually filled, it is a great place to hang out if you are not fussy over food. The Thai taste is not extremely authentic, but yet, it makes you happy with the tangy tom yum soup, tang hoon prawn salad (which was quite delicious and refreshing), and skewered meats, which was what we had. We also enjoyed from the wide selection of drink concoctions which they had, and ended the meal with my favorite sweet tapioca, and banana with ice cream. I think Bangkok Jam would probably be a perfect place for a lunch, or even afternoon tea (due to the limited cafe selections in Plaza Singapura).
